Holiday

Monday was Martin Luther King Day in the USA.

He had a dream - and although black people no longer have to sit at the back of the bus, there's still a lot to be done. Sadly, in our selfish society, righting the many wrongs left undone isn't such an easy task. An example? It took a veto-proof majority vote in Congress before Ronald Reagan would sign the legislation creating the holiday in 1983.

...and hardly anyone but banks and the US Postal Service gets the day off as a holiday. When I was an HR Manager I used to have to make individuals who wanted to honor the day give up a personal day to take it off. Sucks.

And, I think many are still being forced to sit in the back of a bus --- but that bus is now a metaphore for US society.

What were all those niggers worried about. I used to think the best seats were at the back of the bus - we fought over them on the way to school.
