1980 me

Think of one thing you remember from 1980 and tell me in the comments section.

I remember the USA boycotting the Olympics because the USSR had invaded Afghanistan.

Oh, the irony.

Hey, I just mentioned that in the comments section of my blog!

I remember the election of Ronald Reagan, although I had very little sense of what it all meant.

I wasn't even 4, so sadly, my memories are a little hazy from that era.

But good luck to the rest of you oldies ;)

My first birthday. Sounds crazy but I have a good few vivid, if disjointed, memories.

I remember being born, though I think I've just about managed to erase it from my memory.

I was just a undeveloped thing in my mother's tummy in 1980. 1981 was the year that I sprung into action.

I was going to say the debut of Sweet Dreams from Eurythmics but technically that was '81 so I'll have to go with the new octagonal tables in the school cafeteria which I thought were so much cooler than the long rectangular ones.

Simon Bates - 'Our Tune' on Radio One during the journey on the School Bus. I was 14.

I remember a lot in entertainment:

-The movie The Empire Strikes Back was released

-The song "Funky Town" by Lipps, Inc. was playing all over the radio

-The USA Hockey Team took the Gold medal at the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY

-I was in the 6th grade and nervous about starting Jr. High school the next year

:)

Minge is a blogstar!

Look at all these fabuolous people visiting your blog!

I also remember the yellow ribbons tied around trees for the Iranian Hostage Crisis, and daily updates ("Day 232, Day 233...") etc.

I also quite clearly remember the Shah of Iran dying. I remember the news bulletin; it was in the summer and I was at my grandmother's house. I didn't really know who he was other than that he was part of whatever this hostage thing was about. I was nine.
