Neil

I remember speaking to Neil Tennant in Tower Records, Piccadilly Circus. 2001. I'd thought of so many things to say, to ask. When I was there in front of him, a demi-god to Minge, I froze. He asked me how I was.

"Very well, thank you," I replied.

And that was it.

Chris didn't say a thing!

We'd seen Closer To Heaven the previous night and were already on a high. Having the reissues signed by my idols sent me over the edge.

Ooh, meeting one's idols is GRATE. It helps if they're pleasant, as well they should be, for without us loyal fans, they would be nothing. I say, if you've helped pay for someone's car/house/coke, then the least they owe you is a gracious word of thanks.

But really, would you want Chris to say anything? It would sort of ruin the effect.

That said, I'm jealous.

Yes Chris was always the sullen one in the background wasn't he? So I guess he had an image to live up to. Mind you I remember seeing him on Going Live or something like that and he actually...smiled!! Gasp!!

I saw Closer To Heaven too - it was camp as f*ck but fun. The plot was a bit far-fetched though - the guy falling for the rent boy or whoever he was in the space of one day. I loved the trippy bit when they took drugs though and Francis Barber was hilarious.

After taking the photograph I invied Neil up to our house for a coffee - all you need to do is ask.
