Blog today!

Go on, you know you want to.

I've taken part in the History Matters "Share Your One Day In History" event. It's quite fabulous. Here's what I said, dear reader:

I'm staying in Bournemouth for a fortnight. I've been helping my elderly and disabled Mother in the garden today. I planted some winter flowering pansies while she was at her GP surgery getting a flu jab. I came in at lunch time for some vegetable pie with bread and butter. Whilst eating it I watched the news. The main story dealt with Madonna and her proposed adoption of a wee boy from Malawi called David. I've just come down to my sister's house now to look at the internet and reply to an email from my friend Brett. I'll be going back to Mum's house shortly for a cup of tea and a sit down. We'll watch television this evening or maybe record some of my Mum's childhood memories on my camcorder. Early to bed this evening. I have to be up early tomorrow in order to catch the train to London.

my entry today would have read:

crawled out of my stinking pit at around 1pm. Poured a vodka then had a shower. Considered washing bedding but couldn't be arsed - no gaydar action tonight so no point. Received disciplinary letter from boss. Told going to Dublin on Monday to work. Watched Ruby Wax presenting some shit circus show on tv. Thinking about ordering chinese to be delivered from chinese take-away next door.

Methinks your entry was more interesting, however.

Hi minge

I enjoyed reading your One Day in History post. You managed to capture the essence of what the National Archives were trying to do with the History Matters campaign which is why I’d like to invite you to take a look at a new website called “Map My London” which has just been launched by The Museum of London: (www.mapmylondon.com).

OK, so it's not about Edinburgh... but Map My London hopes to revolutionise the way the history of the city is gathered and displayed. It would be great if you could take a look at the site and see if you would be interested in getting involved with uploading your impressions and memories of the capital (assuming you have any!), to help us create an emotional memory bank.

You will be able to upload your experiences about the city onto the Map My London site under headings including “Love and Loss”, “Beauty and Horror” and “Fate and Coincidence”. The site will support contributions in the form of text, digital photographs, video clips and sound recordings and the best thing is that you will be able to have a link directly to your own personal map to put onto your blog.

If this is something that you think that you’d like to get involved with, please visit www.mapmylondon.com. I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback on the website.

Well done on the cool blog – I’ve got it bookmarked, so you might see some more comments from me in the future ;)

Kind regards
Rax, Museum of London
