Kym & Jocelyn Vs Babs & Donna

Many moons ago, back in the sixteenth Century, Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer released a pseudo disco record called No More Tears (Enough Is Enough). It was fabulous and was top of the charts for over eighty years.

Moving on a few millennia, Kym Mazelle and Jocelyn Brown decide to do a cover version of said classic.

It's more disco than the original and as camp as knickers.

But is it better than the original? Please, dear reader, let me know in the comments section.

I believe it is better. A million times better...

The thunderous, pulsing disco would have anyone believe the up-coming lyrics are going to be trite and uttered with no meaning or feeling whatsoever. Personally, I believe Kym and Jocelyn sing it with more heart-felt emotion than Babs and Donna ever did. And that's realy the crux of it, why it's better.

You can just picture Kym giving Jocelyn a high five in the studio when they were done and saying, "Men!"

Dealing with the negative, I always felt that Babs did this record, using modern-street talk, to give herself street-cred. I don't think it worked. I don't think anyone actually laughed at her, but, I'm sure, no-one took it seriously, especially as it was a one off. I know Guilty was pop, but it wasn't disco.

Did Donna feel used?

Are there other cover version that are better than the original? Sure! Some that spring to mind:

Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You - Boystown Gang
Everlasting Love - Sandra
Everlasting Love - Gloria Estefan
Losing My Mind - Liza Minnelli
That Ol' Devil Called Love - Alison Moyet

Can you think of any others?

  3. OMG - I can remember being a little girl and begging my parents for that Streisand & Summer record, which I did get and still have somewhere in my collection... I love their version, but I haven't heard Kym & Jocelyn's yet. Will have to do a search and give it a try. :)

  6. I suspect this is my age talking, but I don't know ANY of those songs, let alone their cover versions.

In other news, I went to the same school as Alison Moyet but she's an oldie too and was gone before I started there.

  13. For all your downloading needs, use LimeWire. If you don't know the song, go to Amazon, check the CD track list, and download from there :)

  14. I'd rather minge emailed it to me, for two reasons:

    a) I'm lazy
    b) I'm cheap

  15. So telling you limewire is free would be..... bad?

I've downloaded it and I like what I see... way easier to use than WinMX (when it existed). Thanks, Dan!

  19. See, Limewire kicks arse. Or ass, if you want to be Yankified. I got the entire Season 2 of Lost from Limewire over the course of a few days.

  21. Well there is that - but I'm pushing 2000 mp3s, over a dozen movies, the entire Lost Season 2...

Of course, I don't share my stuff - I'm a selfish bar steward that downloads and moves it so others can't download it ;)
